Dr. Niloufar Shafiei
Founder. Idea Generator. Author. Developer
Niloufar is dedicated to Little Whale full-time. She generates ideas behind our products and develops the iOS apps. She is a best-seller author of our children’s book Feelu: Explore Your Feelings. She is also a full-time mom of two and a part-time artist.
Niloufar moved to Toronto in 2004 for an MSc and Ph.D. at prestigious York University, completed in 2007 and 2015 respectively. Revered for her academic work, Niloufar’s master’s dissertation was recognized as “The Best Thesis Award” and her doctoral research as “The Best Paper Award” at the international OPODIS conference in France in 2015.
Niloufar is also a part-time artist. She has been actively painting since 2000, and hold a solo mixed media painting exhibition at a George Brown College art studio, in November 2011. She had been learning with international artists Mojgan Bakhtiari and Leila Khatibi in Tehran and Stefan Galvanek in Toronto. She continued her art journey at George Brown College in Toronto and Lotus Educational Institute in Dubai. Currently, she continues painting from her home studio.
A former instructor at York University, her rigorous research in the area of “Distributed Computing”, conducted between 2005-2015 under the supervision of Eric Ruppert, had led her to explore and the question “Human Development” and ways to propel it through computing. Yet, to remain connected, Niloufar starts her day by yoga and meditation and pauses her work for a few hours on a daily basis to paint. She cites her young children as inspirations whose love of the ocean, in fact, resulted in the name Little Whale.
